As we enter autumn and approach winter, there are lots of opportunities to gather; visit loved ones and friends and enjoy meaningful time together partaking in familiar traditions. Our list of seasonal wellness tips will help to keep you and yours healthy as you make plans this season, especially when visiting with friends and family at the Residence at Oak Grove.

Wash Your Hands
Frequent handwashing can significantly reduce the spread of illness-causing germs! Remember to wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds! Need a catchy tune to help keep the time? Sing the chorus line of Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond while you wash. When the chorus ends, your 20 seconds will be up.

On occasions when soap and water is not available to you, using hand sanitizer is a good alternative for immediate need.

Cough into Your Elbow
When you feel a cough coming on, try to avoid coughing into your hands as this can quickly spread germs. Instead, cough into the crook of your elbow, which can help to decrease the spread of sick germs via touch.

Blow Your Nose
After sneezing or when you feel the need to, blow your nose to get the gunk out! Be sure to wash your hands for 20 seconds (queue Sweet Caroline!) after blowing your nose.

Rest Your Body
Rest is so important to your immune system. Whether you’re feeling under the weather or not, quality sleep can help to strengthen your immune system.

Stay at Home
If you’re feeling sick, stay at home and recover! If you have a fever, you should plan on staying home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone.

As you make plans this holiday season, remember to practice these wellness measures. In addition to these tips, make sure you’re staying hydrated and eating nutritious meals, both of which help to keep your immune system boosted. All of these things aid in keeping your loved ones safe as you spend quality time together this year!
