At The Residence at Oak Grove, we believe that informed care is the best care. For our Alzheimer’s and dementia residents in particular, continuing education is paramount to our ability to provide the highest quality of care for your loved one. One of the ways we invest in elevated levels of empathy and compassion toward our memory care residents is by having our staff complete Certified Dementia Practitioner® training provided by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP).

What is Certified Dementia Practitioner® training?

Certified Dementia Practitioner® (CDP) Certifications represent dedication to excellence in dementia care. This training demonstrates that professional carers have taken part in extensive education in their field and are dedicated to ongoing levels of development in order to provide the best care and support to you and your loved ones. CDP® participants are required to be re-certified every two years.

All CDP® certified professional caregivers are required to complete the Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Seminar, which is a required course in order to obtain CDP® certification. This curriculum includes in depth studies of many realities that Alzheimer’s and dementia patients face. Some of the content includes information about wandering, hoarding, aggressive behaviors, culture diversity, pain, nutrition, toileting, falls, spirituality, family support, activities, and more.

After attending the ADDC Seminar, participants must submit an application to be officially recognized as CDP® certified.

Benefits of Care at a CDP® Certified Community

The benefits of having CDP® certified caregivers as part of our dedicated team are limitless. This training enhances our abilities, equipping us with advanced skills in order to provide more holistic, informed care. Additionally, we can significantly improve the daily lives of our residents by maintaining our people first ethos of care, which is emphasized throughout CDP® training.

Person-centered Care

According to the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, dementia care has been historically focused on the needs of the caregiver rather than the patient. Today, we know that the person-centered approach to care is invaluable in helping to engage seniors living with Alzheimer’s and dementia in their reality. In turn, this helps to prevent agitation and confusion. This approach helps to reduce challenging moments for both the patient and the caregiver and enhance the relationship and experience.
We are proud of our dedicated team of CDP® certified professionals!
